Since its first teaser reveals in 2012, Metal Gear Solid V has already been a weird and wild wide, and on September 1st, players will finally get a chance to see for themselves what looks to be Hideo Kojima’s final Metal Gear title, ending a series that has left a strong impression from the very beginning, with 1987’s original Metal Gear on the MSX.
Over the next two weeks I’ll be taking a look back at all of the major titles in the series; from its humble, 8-bit beginnings to the debut of its cinematic style in Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 to the excellent Platinum Games spinoff, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the prologue chapter to final installment in this 30 year tale.
A review will be posted each day for the next two weeks, covering the nine most important games in the series (Sorry, Ghost Babel: I like you but didn’t have time to replay you. Not sorry Portable Ops, you weren’t very good.) Once we’re all prepped and ready for The Phantom Pain, I’ll be playing on PS4 using PSN name Surlaw for anyone who wants to fight it out online and steal each other’s livestock over and over again. Good luck!
